planting flowering shrubs - Knowledgebase Question

I want to plant 4 flowering shrubs (fire bush )around my tree but the roots are preventing me fom digging too far ,I don't want to damage the tree . What do I do ? (Raise the bed???)

Maria,

That sounds like the spot may not be the best for those shrubs. Either move them farther away from the base of the tree or do some minor root cutting to make a space for the shrubs. Firebush likes full sun to part day shade so beneath a tree like that it may not get enough light to do what you want it to do.
