Oil-Dri is essentially clay - the same thing that is marketed as kitty litter. Clay absorbs moisture and is effective in cleaning up oils, water, etc. It is marketed mostly for cleaning up spills in garages, not to be used as a soil amendment. Rather than use Oil-Dri in your potting soil, save it to use in case of a coolant or oil spill in your garage. Instead, make your own potting soil by mixing 7 parts sterilized loam; 3 parts peat; 2 parts sand or grit; 1 part perlite. Mix thoroughly and moisten just before use.
