I live in a suburb of Chicago and am interested in planting Italian Cypress trees to accent our garden and driveway. How will Italian Cypress trees handle the climate in the midwest?

Italian cypress is not rated hardy in your growing region, but a good substitute might be Emerald Isle Leyland cypress (x Cupressocyparis leylandii 'Moncal'(x Cuprocyparis). This plant is similar in appearance, and is rated hardy for your zone.

Best wishes with your landscape!
