| My hydrangeas get plenty of sun and water and may have gotten too much fertilizer this year, because for the first time they did not bloom.. What can I do if it is too much? Should I wait and do nothing. |
| If this is the first time your hydrangeas failed to bloom, and if nothing else has changed in your routine care other than you think you applied too much fertilizer, that's probably the cause of non-blooming. Too much nitrogen can result in lots of lush, green growth, but at the expense of blooms. Your plant was so busy growing that it didn't take time to develop flower buds. Nitrogen will leach out of the soil all on its own and by next growing season your plant should settle back down and bloom when it is supposed to. There's not much else you can do to remove the nitrogen from the soil. Just remember to hold off on fertilizing your hydrangea next year! |
