The Q&A Archives: gallardia goblin no blooms??

Question: gallardia is Aug. 1 tomorrow and my goblin is all foliage and puffy but no buds??? can you advise.????? I transplanted it in the very very early spring. I live in western NY.

Answer: Gaillardia grows best in hot, sunny weather and in soil that is well drained and not too rich. A location in less than full direct sun all day can limit flowering. Sometimes a cool or cloudy season will delay blooming. And, overfertilizing with nitrogen can encourage foliage and vegetative growth at the expense of flowering. I hope this helps you trouble shoot.
