I live in the Dallas area (hot!). I have some trees planted but still have exposed single-story brick walls that need shade from direct sun to help reduce cooling costs. The walls have flower beds at their base about 2 feet wide and face West. What would be a good plant to cover the walls but not look too messy in the winter if they are deciduous. Evergreen plants would be fine if their is something suitable.

Frank,

That is a challenge. I might try a clinging vine such as trumpet creeper (very vigorous), or Carolina Jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens)(needs a support to climb on.
