How do I get my hydrangeas to bloom and come back every year? I have one the I planted this year and no blooms have appeared. I have one other that I planted this year and lost the blooms and now I see a little blue bloom coming out. There are the other 2 I purchased 2 years ago and nothing happened this year. The leaves are growing but no blooms. What do I do? |
Big leaf hydrangeas produce flowers on new shoots which develop on old wood. If your hydrangeas die down to the ground during the winter months, or if you prune them all the way down, there will be no old wood from which new flowering shoots can develop. They may never bloom for you! Endless Summer hydrangeas bloom on either new or old wood so even if they die down to ground level every year you will still get loads of blooms. May it's time to replace your non-blooming hydrangeas? |
