The Q&A Archives: Royal Robe

Question: Is there anyway a Royal Robe could survive in Zone seven. I really would love to put it in the garden. If not is there anything else like it that would work.

Answer: Unfortunately, no, there is no way Solanum rantonnetii 'Royal Robe' would survive the winter outdoors for you. You might be able to grow it as a container plant and bring it inside each winter. There is no really good substitute, but a blue flowered rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) might be an approximation. I'm sorry I can't be more encouraging.
