The Q&A Archives: Crimson King Maple Trees

Question: My Son a resident of Atlanta Ga. is trying to purchase a Crimson King Maple Tree to plant at his residence just outside the city of Atlanta - He is having trouble locating this type of tree at all local nurseries and is wondering if this tree can survive in a Southern climate like Atlanta's - Thank You for your response

Answer: You are correct. The Atlanta climate is too warm for this particular tree so that is probably why he can't find it locally. The "October Glory" maple would be a much better choice and has terrific fall color. His local professional nurseryman should be able to recommend a tree(s) for him to plant based on knowing the growing conditions in the spot where he wants to plant and also his overall design goals.
