| Premature fruit drop is almost always from incorrect environment or cultural care. Too much water is one cause. Low humidity is another. It's important that your tree gets at least 6 hours of sunlight a day and that the soil is moist but not soggy wet. Citrus trees always set more blossoms than they develop into fruit. It's a natural thinning process. Of those blossoms that it can support, many drop due to lack of pollination (insect activity). A three year old tree may only be able to fully develop 4-5 lemons. As the tree matures, it will become much more productive. Since Meyer Lemon trees bloom several times a year you still have a chance of getting some fruit this year. Try feeding your tree on a regular basis to make it vigorous enough to fully develop the fruit it sets. Best wishes with your lemon tree! |
