The Q&A Archives: Will fig volunteer bear fruit?

Question: I have volunteer fig trees sprouting up from my primary fig. If I plant a volunteer, will it bear fruit?

Answer: Fig trees can sucker readily and these suckers will eventually grow into fruit bearing trees. Take a shovel and sever the root between the parent plant and the sucker, then dig it up and replant it. It should grow well and will eventually bear fruit.
