| I have grown Russian sage in my yard in upstate NY for many years and have planted it in my new home in NC. Recently we visited Santa Fe, NM and were told that the beautiful purple plants found everywhere are Russian sage. They looked much fuller and more compact than the ones I have grown. Is a different variety grown in the Southwest or are the conditions just better there? The variety in my garden now is Longin. I would love to have it look like the ones in NM. Thank you |
| My own experience with this plant is that it performs best in a very well drained garden (read hot and sunny-dry) and if you give it good garden soil with lots of water, it won't perform well at all. So, think the hottest and poorest soil you have and plant this gem there. It should thrive for you. |
