Do Emerald Spreader Yews do well in full and partial shade? Also, in Texas I have a very dark clay soil. Is that OK for the yews?

Yew,

Yews prefer a full to partial sun exposure. While they are okay in your area as far as their cold hardiness rating, they are not adapted to your heat. They are listed up to heat zone 7 and you are in heat zone 9. Clay soil is not a big problem if the area is well drained.
