Why do my large dahlias take so long to blossom and have so much foliage during the summer? Some don't bloom until after Labor Day.

Dahlias take all summer to develop flowers - most don't begin to bud until late August. It's just the nature of these tall growing types. If you don't mind having slightly smaller flowers, you can grow border dahlias or the smaller Pompom types that will begin to flower in late July in your area.
