| I have just planted 2 Aristocrat Flowering pear trees in a 2' x 30' strip along the street in front of our house. I am looking for one plant to fill in along the strip. I would like to plant Liriope, but I think the strip gets too much sun. The plant also needs to be somewhat hardy, because occasionally it may get stepped on. Thanks. |
| I think your first choice is a good one. Liriope is remarkably tough. It will grow in deep shade or full sun, in sand or clay. It can endure heat, drought and salt spray, but will not take "wet feet"; it requires well-drained soil. Flowers are produced most freely in a sunny location. Space the plants about 1 foot apart when planting. As the plants grow and mature, they can be dug and separated ? usually this is done every three or four years if you want to increase your plants. Liriope will take occasional foot traffic without problem. Best wishes with your landscape! |
