The Q&A Archives: figs in zone 6b

Question: can i grow my fig out doors? i live in zone 6b phila pa 19138

Answer: If you have a Brown Turkey fig, you should be able to grow it outdoors in a sheltered spot with good protection from winter winds. It will most likely freeze and die back down to the ground each winter but should regrow and fruit anyway. Other varieties are less winter hardy and so should be grown as container plants and brought into a cool but protected place (temperature above freezing) each winter.
