| My 5 Annabelle Hydrangeas look very healthy, but are supposed to have white blooms. Instead they have had apple green blooms all season so far and it is the first part of September now and the blooms show no signs of turning white. They were planted last year (in Sept 05) in an area that gets mostly shade very close to the overhang of the house that faces a north direction. Is the apple green bloom color due to something in the environment - not enough sun, soil content deficiency, etc? |
| What you describe is quite common and there's really nothing wrong with your hydrangeas. The greenish color simply means that the flowers are not maturing fully. This is generally weather related (not enough heat or sunshine). Hydrangeas prefer growing in morning sun and afternoon shade. If you want to have pure white flowers, you may need to move your plants. Best wishes with your landscape! |
