The Q&A Archives: Orchids in Daly City, CA

Question: I'm interested in getting orchids but I live in no. coastal California the climate is cooler. Can you suggest which variety would do well?

Answer: If your garden never gets below 40F during the winter months you can grow some of the hardiest orchids outdoors. If you get occasional freezes, plan on keeping your orchids in pots and taking them inside during the winter months.

Cymbidiums, Cypripediums, Odontoglossums and Miltonias are among the most cold tolerant orchids but they still prefer temperatures higher than 40F.

Best wishes with your orchids!
