I am looking for a ground cover that will grow near Beech trees. Their large canapy and shallow roots make growing grass or a lawn a near impossiblity...Any suggestions... Thanks, Mike DeLeo |
In my experience it is virtually impossible to grow anything beneath a mature beech tree. In the long run it is less frustrating to simply mulch the area with a scant inch or two of organic mulch (no deeper) to make it look tidy and cared for. If the tree is still fairly young, you might try Vinca minor (Periwinkle) beneath it but this will not be a permanent fix. Most people who are lucky enough to have a beech consider the bare ground beneath it a small price to pay for such a magnificent tree. Enjoy your beech! |
