You can use almost any organic matter for mulch, including grass clippings and sawdust. However, these two materials should be aged or weathered or they may clump together and shed water. Simply spread your sawdust or grass clippings out until they are dry, then rake them up and place them around your plants. Dry clippings or sawdust make effective mulches.
