Am a landscape designer who spoke with a nursery carrying your bamboo fargesia rufa. The nursery says it will only form a 3foot clump and not continue to spread. Am considering recommending it to a client for privacy from a problematic neighbor. Can you please give me your experience with it with regards to spreading and containment.
Thanks.

Fargesia rufa is not a running or spreading bamboo, it is a small, slow growing, clumping bamboo. The clump expands fairly slowly, average width is about three feet. As such, it does not need containment the way a running bamboo does and it would not be difficult to keep at a desired width if that ever became necessary.
