The Q&A Archives: Golden Chain Tree

Question: Can a cutting from this tree be started in a vase of water? If not,how does one start a cutting for replanting? There aren't any small shoots with roots at the base of the tree.

Answer: Golden Chain trees can be propagated from softwood cuttings and from seeds. It may be too late in the season to start a cutting, but you can certainly try rooting one in a glass of water. If it doesn't root, you can try softwood cuttings in early summer, dipping the cut end in rooting hormone and setting them in a container of moistened potting soil. They should root by the end of the summer.
