How do I prune a Dappled Willow? - Knowledgebase Question

The plant is about 9 months old and I wish to keep it at about 6-7 feet tall. It is now at that height. How far down should I prune it andcan I shape it?

This shrub can be pruned to keep it small. The best time to prune it is in early spring. Cut it back to remove any winter damage, then prune additionally if desired to shape it or control the size. Some gardeners will cut it back very short each spring. It will regrow quickly so you may need to prune several times during the summer. It is too late in the season to prune now as this may stimulate excess late season growth that will not harden sufficiently before winter.
