Ever heard of this mimosa variety - Knowledgebase Question

While in San Antonio this June, I noticed a small, tropical looking tree with leaves like a mimosa, but the flower was a red, yellow and orange color with a different shape than a traditional mimosa. Do you know what it is called?

That was probably a Pride of Barbados, also called a Red Bird of Paradise (Caesalpinia pulcherrima). It is a perennial in zone 9 and a fairly hardy perennial in zone 8b. The following web site has a photo of the plant:
