The Q&A Archives: loropetalum purples

Question: I am looking for a purple Loropetalum cultivar that will not show green leaves. Any suggestions? many photos of loropetalum I've found seem to have green leaves somewhere in the mass of purple foliage.

Answer: The purple loropetalum typically has leaves that are darker green than the species, but with burgundy tints. The foliage sometimes reverts to green when the leaves are exposed to hot afternoon sunshine. You may be able to keep the foliage purple if you provide afternoon shade, but doing so will reduce the number of flowers the plant can produce.

Best wishes with your landscape.
