THE TREE WAS PLANTED 3 WEEKS AGO. THERE WAS SOME DRIED OUT LEAVES ON THE TREE BUT IT LOOKED HEALTHY. AFTER A SHORT TIME I NOTICED SOME OF THE GREEN LEAVES WERE TURNING BROWN ON THE EDGES. I TRIED TO REMOVE MOST OF THE DRIED OUT EDGES WITH MY FINGERTIPS. I NOW NOTICE THERE IS NEW GROWTH AND THE LEAVES SEEM TO BE STAYING GREEN. I GAVE IT PLENTY OF WATER THE FIRST WEEK AND IT SEEMS TO BE ROOTING NICELY. WAS THIS A FORM OF SHOCK FOR THE TREE OR SHOULD I BE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING ELSE? I HAD REPLACED THE SOIL AT THIS LOCATION WITH 1/2 NEW SANDY SOIL AND 1/2 HUMUS MIXED TOGETHER BECAUSE THE PRIOR TREE AT THIS LOCATION ALWAYS HAD LEAF PROBLEMS SO I THOUGHT THE SOIL WAS SOUR. I HOPE I DID THE RIGHT THING. IT'S BEEN A REAL HOT SUMMER IN FLORIDA AND MAYBE THAT ADDED TO THE LEAF PROBLEM. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. JIM

Jim,

Sorry for the delayed reply. Your tree did suffer transplant shock. If new growth is continuing it should be fine. Fall and winter will give it more time to recover and develop a good root system to get ready for next summer's heat. Don't keep it too wet, just adequately moist. Wait until early spring to fertilize the tree.
