How much space should I allow between Arbutus marinas (those with with multiple trunks)? Also, how much space should I allow for shrubs, ground covers and perennials planted in proximity to Arbutus marina? |
Arbutus will grow anywhere from 30-40' high and 20-30' wide. You can prune to keep them smaller. When spacing plants you'll want to allow for mature height and width so the plants are not overcrowded. The best course of action is to determine just how large a shrub or perennial will be at maturity and then space accordingly so plants fill the bed, but do not become crowded enough to interfere with good air circulation. Overcrowded plants will also compete for moisture and nutrients, but giving each enough elbow room to grow should eliminate that problem. So, check to see just how large your specimens might grow and plant them so they will have enough room between each plant to grow to their ultimate size. |
