Which podocarpus would be better for a view screen next to a block wall? They should be about 8-10 feet within a couple yrs. I'll be planting them about 2-3 ft on centers. Mostly shaded except afternoon sun in spring and summer. One mile from ocean but protected from wind.

Podocarpus gracilior grows at a moderate rate, reaching 50 ft., 25 ft. wide; P. macrophylus is a slow grower, 15 to 20 feet tall, 6 to 8 feet wide. Of the two, I'd choose gracilior, both because of the growth rate and the fact that it flowers. If you choose gracilior, you can space them further apart to create a screening hedge.

Best wishes with your new plants!
