| I have a newly planted St Mary Sounthern Magnolia. 7 feet tall. It was planted in 1st week of October. It has several fruits on each tree now. Will it start flowering next spring/ early summer? How to grow it wider? |
| This tree has a natural width of 20 to 25 feet and grows about that tall when it reaches its full size. If your new tree seems narrow, keep in mind that its shape and proportion will change naturally as it matures. The fruits show where there were blooms this past season. Your tree is mature enough to flower. Whether or not it blooms next year will depend on how well it comes through the winter. If it is severely stressed, or if it suffers transplant shock or is slow to establish, it may not bloom right away. Providing a windbreak for your tree this winter (if it is in a windy location) and keeping the soil slightly moist any time it is not frozen will help it to establish more quickly.
