How short should I clip my spirea hedge in the spring?

There are several kinds of spirea. If yours blooms in the spring, wait until after it blooms to prune. If it blooms later in the summer, prune it in late winter, or very early spring. You can cut it down almost to the ground, and new growth will begin immediately. I like to prune more often and less severely, but sprirea is a vigorous grower and very forgiving if you prune it back hard.
