Is it harmful to trim my topiary evergreen in late fall?

It's always risky to prune in late fall because pruning almost always encourages new growth. This new growth will not have sufficient time to harden off before cold weather arrives, making it susceptible to die back during the winter months. I'd wait until spring and do any required pruning then.
