| I'm sorry to bother you but I have a quick question. I am in zone 7 and have been growing 6 bougainvillea's from early spring. I adore these plants and have three in pots and three in the ground. I have been recently told that they will not live through an Atlanta winter. Do you have any advice on how I might keep the ones in the ground alive? I figured I would heavily mulch and even wrap my containers in bubble wrap or burlap, any advice? |
| Hope, No bother at all and I am sorry for the delayed reply. Your ideas are all good ones and they may work if you can keep the sol from staying soggy wet and keep the temps around the plant near freezing or above. They can take a brief light freeze but not a hard one. I would use a coarse hay or pine needle mulch and then cover with bubble wrap that goes from the ground over the plants and back to the ground like a blanket (not wrapped around the plant). Then cover the bubble wrap with plenty more mulch. You might also consider digging and repotting some of the plants for winter. Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon! |
