My mini grapefruit tree that I bought in May at a nursery has a sticky residue on the leaves and stems and the fruit and also brown scabs on the fruit and stems. Should I throw it away or can I treat it?

Unfortunately, based on the description I am not certain what is happening to your tree. It may have a scale insect infestation or it may have a fungal infection (scab) or it may have both. I would strongly suggest you consult with your local county extension to obtain a specific diagnosis, and based on that, decide how to proceed. Both are treatable, but if the problem has reached the point where it is severe you may want to start again with a healthy new tree. Your county extension will have the most up to date information on what to use and how/when is best to apply it for maximum results.
