The Q&A Archives: Caring for Blue Potato Bush

Question: I have planted this bush in my garden. Now that it is fall, I am concerned about the harsh winter that it will face. What should I do to protect this, so that I can have a beautiful plant next spring?

Answer: Lycianthes rantonnetii, or Blue Potato Bush, is a tender perennial, hardy to about 35F. If your garden regularly receives winter weather below freezing, you may want to take your plant indoors. It will grow in bright light, in average household temperatures and it prefers moist soil. Best wishes with your plant!
