I have a planter on my deck that is about 2 ft. deep, one foot wide and 20 feet long. I used to have Bar Harbor or Blue Rug (can't recall which) Juniper in it (for 16 years) but they died last year. I may have killed them with Roundup while trying to control a vine. I want to replant and would like a recommendation on the best low growing juniper to use in the situation. The planter is on the south side of my house, in direct sun all day. The planter is not sheltered in any way. I would love to put in the bluest juniper possible that is also not prickly since people sit on the edge of the planter. Thank you. |
Juniperus horizontalis Icee Blue is a great year round blue only about four inches tall. Bar Harbor turns a distinctive purplish color in winter and grows to about a foot tall. Blue Rug is silvery blue and very short, four to six inches high. As far as prickliness, I would suggest you feel them and see what you think. In my personal experience they all cause a skin reaction but I am sensitive to many different plants. Good luck with your replacements! |
