How and when should four foot tall pomegrante trees in Pheonix area be prunned?

First, determine why you are pruning. Pruning reduces flowering and fruiting, and most people like the bright red flowers and fruits. Also, if you have a dwarf 'Nana' variety you won't need to prune for height. Trim out individual dead, broken, or weak branches in winter (Jan). Don't shear which ruins the natural shape and really cuts back on flowering. Good luck!
