The Q&A Archives: Precautions of Holly Plant

Question: I was told that Holly Plants can be harmful to animals so we don't want to plant our new Blue Boy Holly plant where they play. Are they dangerous to animals?

Answer: Holly berries are toxic to humans so they should not be consumed, but I cannot find any reference to holly (Ilex) in the Cornell University's list of plants poisonous to animals ( It isn't likely that a dog or cat would eat holly leaves because of the prickly leaf margins.
