| Julie, Sorry for the delayed reply. You can leave the phlox if you wish until late winter and then cut it back to about 4 inches in spring prior to the arrival of new growth. The best weed control is to keep them mulched well. Perennial weeds may need hand removal or application of a grass killer (for things like bermudagrass). Thanks for the question.
