My Blue Mist Bluebeard has grown to a massive 4-5' mound and outgrown its spot. I'm not sure how to prune it. Do I need to shear it short to the ground? Thanks for your time! julie holland |
Caryopteris x clandonensis 'Blue Mist' can be cut down to nearly ground level and mulched over with pine boughs or straw to protect the roots during the winter months. The following spring it will send out new flowering shoots. If your plant is very overgrown, cutting it back this winter will ensure you have a more compact plant next spring. If you'd rather not prune it down so far, you can wait until spring and prune it back by about one-third. This will produce a flush of new growth. Best wishes with your garden! |
