What do I need to do to my 1 year old Red Maple for the winter. I live in the Texas Panhandle. Also, Can I plant a Cottenwood naxt to it? It's time to trasplant.

Marsha,

Red maples are rated as hardy throughout the panhandle region of Texas. I would not plant another tree near the red maple as that would cause them to grow in competition and thus not form a nice shape but rather shade each other out and end up growing lopsided. Give at least 40 feet between those two trees.
