I want to plant a variety of crepe myrtle that grows like a tree as opposed to the shrub kind. What species should I look for? I want it to shade my Japanese Maple so it doesn't get too much sun in the Summer. Thanks.

Natchez is a good variety for your purposes, and the cinnamon colored exfoliating bark is very attractive. There are other tall growing crape varieties but not with such attractive bark.

Best wishes with your new tree!
