This is my first year to attempt to grow tomatoes from seed. Is it necessary to move seedlings to larger pots prior to setting in the garden?

Your seedlings should be transplanted into individual pots after they've developed two sets of leaves. This eliminates over-crowding and competition for moisture and nutrients. It also gives each plant an opportunity to develop a healthy root system, which will give them a jump-start when planted in the garden bed. You want stout and sturdy seedlings when you transplant, so they can survive the transition from indoors to an outdoor environment.

Good luck with your new project!
