The Q&A Archives: Grass over a septic tank

Question: Every summer the fescue grass over our septic tank dies. Would Bermuda grass tolerate the heat produced there and need less water than fescue? Obviously I did not water that area during the drought so need to try that too.

Answer: Sandra,

Fescue is a cool season grass and barely survives a hot southern summer. Bermuda would be much more tough, but is also more invasive, creeping into flower beds and other garden areas. It needs lots of sun to do well.
