| We bought two lilac hibiscus trees and planted them this summer in Austin, Texas. One did fairly well, the other died. We had to replace the dead one twice; now we have two that are alive, but one is not doing that well: whole branches of leaves die. We have not seen any insects or signs of them. Could this be a virus? How would one recognize a virus? How do we treat this if it is a virus? If it's something else? Again, the other original tree, only 10 feet away, is doing fine. | Toni, It is probably not a virus. I suspect root problems such as a lack of water or soggy wet soil conditions. You might try contacting your Travis County Extension Office to see if they can assist further by having you bring in a sample or send a photo of the problem plant by e-mail. Thanks for the question.
