Purple Delight Lilac Hibiscus - Knowledgebase Question

We bought two lilac hibiscus trees and planted them this summer in Austin, Texas. One did fairly well, the other died. We had to replace the dead one twice; now we have two that are alive, but one is not doing that well: whole branches of leaves die. We have not seen any insects or signs of them. Could this be a virus? How would one recognize a virus? How do we treat this if it is a virus? If it's something else?

Again, the other original tree, only 10 feet away, is doing fine.

Thank you for your help!
Toni

Toni,

It is probably not a virus. I suspect root problems such as a lack of water or soggy wet soil conditions. You might try contacting your Travis County Extension Office to see if they can assist further by having you bring in a sample or send a photo of the problem plant by e-mail.
