cacti base rot - Knowledgebase Question

I think my mammilaria rhodantha has base rot and I fear my only options are to either throw it away or cut the cactus in half and try to repot it. would it be able to survive being cut in half?

There's a remote possibility that the cut portion will root. You have nothing to lose by trying. Cut the healthy part away from your cactus and allow it to callous over (takes 2-3 days). Then barely bury the cut part in a sandy cactus mix. Water sparingly and wait patiently. Hope it roots for you!
