Do you have any suggestions on areas for dogs? I have a side yard where our two 2yr old golden retrievers reside. We had a grass area but because it is shaded it retains moisture and with the dogs the lawn has become a mud yard. To blend into the mix this is the side yard with the entry fence for the backyard so we would like to at least make it presentable if not attractive to the entering visitor. Any suggestions?

Dogs are pretty hard on any turf or groundcovers. In order for the lawn to recover, you will need to fence off the damaged areas for a while to keep traffic off. The only other alternative is to use a pet-friendly artificial turf in the area. There are many types to choose from and some have an amazingly natural look. For options, do a web search on synthetic turf. (Or try http://www.sprinturfsp.com/pro...)

Best wishes with your dog-friendly yard!
