I have a smoke tree that just about touches the ground from the weight of the upper branches. Can I prune the tree down to a smaller more compact size, more like a bush instead of a tree?
Thank you

Smoke tree (Cotinus coggygria) can be pruned down to about 5" above ground level to completely renew it, or you can simply prune it back to create or maintain a specific shape. Early spring is the best time to prune smoke trees.

Best wishes with your landscape!
