What is the best mulch? I know to cut trees to ground level and mulch, but I'm not sure what is best - hay, straw, hardwood mulch.

When do I use ammonium sulfate? Growing season or dormant season?

Can I separate these trees like I do with my regular banana trees in the spring?

Thanks for your quick response.

Pine straw is fine for mulch. It sounds to me as though you have lots of experience with banana trees. Your hardy banana is no different from the rest - divide in spring, use ammonium sulfate in spring after growth begins.

Best wishes with your landscape!
