| I have a Blue Boy and a Blue Girl Holly plants. They are well protected and grow very well. The leaves are thick and shiny, but I have only had berries once out of the last 5 years. I get white flowers and hope to see the berries - but nothing. What do you think the problem is? |
| Since both the male and female plant are flowering, you should expect berries. About the only thing that would prevent berry formation is lack of insect activity while the shrubs are in bloom. Over-use of pesticides, cold or rainy weather can keep flying insects from visiting the flowers. Next spring when your shrubs are in bloom, make a note of the weather and any bee activity you see. Then wait to see if berries develop. If the weather is clear and above 40F you should see bees or tiny wasps visiting the flowers. You might also plant some spring blooming annuals or perennials to further invite pollinating insects to your garden. Hope this information helps! |
