Is it worth the time & trouble to attempt growing a pineapple plant in zone 9?

I apologize for this delayed reply to your gardening question and hope it is still helpful to you.

It is worth it if you love messing with plants. It is not if the goal is simply to get a pineapple to eat. Pineapples are not that difficult to grow, but your plant will take a year or so to fruit and must be protected when temperatures reach near the freezing mark.
